You Are What You Sit On

There’s an old expression we’ve all heard at some point in our lives. “You are what you eat.” Simply translated it means to be fit and healthy, you must eat good food.

Lifestyle gurus and fitness experts have taken that idea a step further stating that logic applies to all aspects of the body - the air you breathe, the cleaning products you use, the fabrics you wear – all contribute to your overall health.

But what about the furniture in your life?

What does that chair/desk/table say about you, your health, and the health of the planet?

We can say that if your piece comes from us, it says you are committed to making thoughtful and responsible choices regarding the furniture in your life.

We are a FSC® certified shop

We offer FSC-certified wood products, when specified by our customers. The Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) is a non-profit organization working to promote the environmentally responsible management of the world’s forests. Theirs is not a mission to end forestry but instead to find a way to meet the needs of the planet regarding forest products while also caring for and supporting the world’s forests for future generations. Buying FSC certified products contributes to sustainable forest management.

We offer Declare labels

Declare is a completely voluntary program created by the International Living Future Institute to provide purchasers and end users with the knowledge of what is in building and furniture products. It is transparency at its best. The Declare label offers a who, what, where roadmap for materials stating a products origin, ingredients, and end of life. Several of our solid wood and premium plywood tables with solid wood, premium plywood or steel bases are offered with Declare Labels and are Red List free so you can be confident in your purchase.

We plant a tree for every table we sell

According to the International Journal of Science, there are approximately 3.04 trillion trees on the planet. While this figure sounds healthy, scientists and climate change ecologists feel we could and should do better especially with global CO2 emissions at 37 billion tons per year. Their solution is to plant another 1 trillion trees and we’re doing our part to help make that happen. Working with One Tree Planted, we are committed to planting a tree for every table we sell.

Carbon is sequestered in wood, making it carbon negative

Using solid wood in general for your tables and other furniture is inherently carbon negative, and benefits the environment when these items are in long term use. Carbon is sequestered in wood products.

Our products are built to last

A better built product not only works better, it lasts longer. From the start, we’ve placed an importance on extreme durability and masterful craftsmanship, and we’ve continued to support these ambitions with investments in our machinery and our people. Our factory, and our company, is built around the dedicated individuals working to design, engineer, and build what we refer to as Coriander-quality furniture. Because of this, we can confidently offer a 10-year guarantee on our products and know they will last much longer and stay out of the landfill.

We are constantly striving to add to our sustainable efforts in our materials selection, our manufacturing processes, and our facility. We understand there is more work to be done but we are committed to putting in the time for those efforts we can realistically achieve. We promise to always be improving and never greenwash our abilities as we continue to deliver quality American made products – in all ways – safe to sit on.
